Urgent - Help Us Protect the Unborn!
Victoria's Labor Government is intent on legalising abortion. To help the Government achieve this goal the Victorian Law Reform Commission was asked for advice on how to remove abortion from the Crimes Act. The Commission has recommended three options. All options legalise abortion. We need to appeal to our parliamentarians to reject all options.
The Brumby Labor Government's abortion bill has been passed in the Legislative Assembly by a final vote of 49 to 32 late on Thursday 11 September. The Bill now goes to Legislative Council for debate beginning October 7.
It is now up to our 40 MLC's in the Legislative Assembly whether or not to legalise abortion up to birth. In Victoria we each have 5 members in the Legislative Council.
Ask your MLCs to oppose the legalisation of abortion...Call at your MLC's office - or phone, fax, or write an email asking for an appointment. If you can't visit, make sure you write to them. Tell them you are opposed to ANY bill that would decriminalise abortion.
You can use points such as:- Every abortion kills a baby
- The Brumby Labor Government is attempting to redefine abortion from being a crime to a 'health procedure'. What is healthy about killing small babies and ruining their mother's lives?
- In countries where abortion laws have been made more restrictive maternal death rates have gone down e.g Nicaragua, Poland. Ireland has the lowest maternal mortality rate in the world.
- Women deserve better than abortion. Nations are judged on how they treat the most vulnerable members of society. Pregnant mothers and their babies belong to this category.
Contact your FIVE MP's in the Legislative Council. It is important to write to ALL of them.
