from Dr Michael Christie, president, World Federation of Doctors who Respect Human Life.
We wish to dissociate ourselves from the seven doctors who advocate the legalising of the killing of patients by their own physicians. They do not represent the mainstream of medical opinion on this topic.
Both across Australia and internationally the deliberate killing of one’s own patients is considered, by doctors themselves, to be unethical. The pronouncements of the World Medical Association on this topic as well as the Australian Medical Association’s own code of ethics attest to this.
It will be a sad day indeed for the medical profession and society in general if deliberate physician killing is sanctioned.
Michael Christie, Essendon.
