Does Abortion Take a Human Life?

Why not judge for yourself...

Human life begins at fertilization, when the ovum of a female meets the sperm of a male. The fetus is a new life separate from his parents, with his own chromosomal make-up. He replaces his own dying cells. He is a unique human being totally distinct from his parents. Never again will a being identical to him exist.

"I WAS TOLD THE FETUS IS NOTHING BUT A GLOB OF TISSUE"

The photos in this pamphlet show some of the little babies they refer to as "globs of tissue". As you can see, these words are propaganda and a fabrication promoted by the anti-life forces. The baby’s heart begins beating between 18 and 24 days, even before the mother knows she is pregnant. He moves his arms and legs at six weeks. At 43 days his brain waves can be read, his heart is beating sturdily, his stomach produces digestive juices, the liver produces blood cells. At eight weeks the baby is completely formed: all of his organs are functioning, he even urinates and has his very own finger prints. At this age he does feel pain, he kicks his legs, moves his feet and tiny toes and fingers, even makes a strong fist. At 11 weeks he sucks his thumb, and has his fingernails.

BEFORE BIRTH DOES THE BABY LIVE SURROUNDED BY WATER?

Yes, in what is called the amniotic sac. He lives, breathes and swims in this amniotic fluid. At eight weeks the baby opens his mouth and drinks the fluid. Tests have shown when a needle is inserted into the amniotic sac and the point sticks the baby he feels pain and immediately moves away from the needle. Further tests have shown that if a sweet solution is added to the fluid he drinks more; but if a sour or bitter solution is added, he drinks much less.

HOW ARE ABORTIONS PERFORMED?

Generally there are five types: 1) suction; 2) dilation and curetage (D&C); 3) prostaglnadin; 4) saline (salt) poisoning; 5) hysterotomy. Some of these methods are shown in photos in this pamphlet.

SUCTION ABORTION: USED BEFORE 10 WEEKS

A tube is inserted into the uterus and connected to a strong suction machine. The vacuum is so powerful the baby is ripped to pieces and sucked into a jar - arms, legs, torso, and head.

HOW ARE D & C ABORTIONS PERFORMED?

The D&C abortion is done before 12 weeks. A hook shaped knife is inserted into the uterus and cuts the baby into small pieces. His head is crushed with the forceps to allow removal through the narrow passage. The womb is then scraped out completely. Bleeding is sometimes profuse.

HOW DOES THE DRUG PROSTAGLANDIN WORK?

This hormone drug, injected into the amniotic sac, produces labor and premature birth. The baby in most cases is born alive with a heart beat and is then put aside to die.

SALINE ABORTION: USED AFTER 16 WEEKS

A strong poison solution of salt is injected, through the belly, into the amniotic sac. The helpless baby is forced to swallow this deadly poison. He suffers severely, he kicks and jerks violently, he is being burned alive, his skin peels off. Twenty-four to 48 hours later the mother delivers a dead baby.

HYSTEROTOMY: USED LATE IN PREGNANCIES

As in a Cesarean Section, the abdomen is cut open and the baby lifted out while he moves, squirms, fights to breathe, and sometimes cries. While his heart is beating he is left to die.

ARE ABORTIONS LEGAL ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE NINTH MONTH?

Yes, the decree of the Supreme Court (USA) allows abortion at any time for such reasons as financial burdens, possibility of a handicapped baby, physical and mental stress of the mother, stigma of the unwed, or any trivial reason. Therefore we have what amounts to "abortion on demand" at anytime up to normal birth.

"A WOMAN HAS A RIGHT TO HER OWN BODY"

This is true - but the baby is NOT her own body. Her baby is a separate human being apart from her body. The baby lives in his own amniotic sac and makes his own lifeline, the umbilical cord and placenta. All of these things belong to the baby, made with his very own cells; therefore, the right to a woman’s body does not include the fight to destroy the body and life of her baby. The baby has his own right to live. Let’s put aside whether the fetus is a part of the mother’s body and consider that society has never permitted man or woman the absolute control of their own bodies. To advocate otherwise is ludicrous. Prostitution, drug abuse, self mutilation, abortion and suicide have always been forbidden, and rightly so.

"WHY NOT PERMIT ABORTIONS FOR RAPE VICTIMS?"

This is another propaganda tool used by the anti-life forces and the pro-abortion media. We now have abortion on demand up to the 9th month because of false arguments like this. The truth is that pregnancy from rape is extremely rare. Many different studies have shown conclusively that rape almost never results in a pregnancy. Rape victims need our help to overcome their emotional problems, even if they do not become pregnant. The few who do become pregnant need additional help which pro-life organizations give free to anyone in need.

"IT IS CRUEL TO ALLOW HANDICAPPED OR RETARDED CHILDREN TO BE BORN"

Cruel to whom? To the mother? If she thinks it’s cruel, she’s really thinking of herself not the child. His happiness cannot be measured in terms of worth or usefulness. Countless studies have shown there is no difference in the degree of happiness between malformed and normal persons.

"UNWANTED CHILDREN USUALLY RESULT IN BATTERED AND ABUSED CHILDREN"

This is another false notion. Pediatrics Professor, Dr. Edward Lenoski showed, in one study, that 91 percent of 674 battered children were from planned pregnancies. It has been proven repeatedly that child abuse has increased since abortion-on-demand became available in 1973.

The plain fact is: abortion, which kills nearly two million babies each year, is the ultimate child abuse.

"THOUSANDS OF WOMEN HAVE DIED BECAUSE OF BACK ALLEY ABORTIONS"

This figure is totally false. The federal government listed only 160 maternal deaths from abortion in 1967. However, the fact is that many women die from both "legal" and "back alley" abortions. We offer real alternatives to abortion because every abortion is dangerous for the mother and absolutely fatal for the baby.

"WHAT ABOUT THE POPULATION EXPLOSION?

This is more anti-life propaganda. The fact is that our planet can easily accommodate many times more people than are now living. We do not have too many people, the opposite is true! Eighty years ago the U.S. average was six births per family, today the average is a record low 1.8 births per family. This means we are NOT reproducing ourselves - we are now in a sharp population decline! In 20 years we will face a crisis because there will be a great shortage of younger taxpayers to support our old retired people, who supported us. The same anti-life forces who pushed for abortion and won are now pushing for euthanasia to kill the old who, they say, have become non-productive and a burden to society.

"BUT EUTHANASIA COULD NEVER HAPPEN HERE!"

It is already happening now! Since California passed the first euthanasia law in the nation in 1977, another 21 states have passed "right to die legislation" and similar laws have been introduced in 19 other states. Many of these are active euthanasia bills designed to kill with a fatal injection. There are now many cases of babies being left to die because the doctors thought the baby was "less than perfect".

"I AM PREGNANT AND I DEFINITELY CANT KEEP THIS BABY WHAT CAN I DO?"

Give your baby life, and consider a good loving couple adopting your baby. There are one million such couples now anxiously waiting. Avoid the severe and long-lasting emotional scars that will surely result from killing your own baby by abortion.

ARE ABORTIONS SAFE FOR THE MOTHER?

Abortion is a major surgical procedure and can result in serious complications such as: haemorrhage, menstrual disturbances, sterility, miscarriages, or premature births with an increased risk of a mentally retarded baby. Based on a 1978 government study "miscarriages occur at a 35 percent higher rate among women who have had abortions, also (women who have had abortions have) 25 to 50 percent higher premature births with low birth weight." Abortion may worsen any psychological problems the mother may have, and can result in severe and long-lasting emotional disturbances.
